For the WORDPLAY exhibit, members of the Five15Arts Collective challenged themselves to create visual works that connect deeply with language.

In some pieces, words take center stage—bold and direct—where their visual form amplifies meaning and emotion. Other works weave text more subtly into the composition, using language as a structural or expressive element. And some pieces contain no visible words at all, yet are shaped by language through internal dialogue, a line of poetry, or a guiding narrative.

“In art, where communication is so important, language and the written word, whether seen or not, can be integral to the message of a sculpture, painting or photograph, or a fiber piece. Some will be subtle, and others right in your face,” said Wendy Raisanen, President of Five15Arts.

We invite you to look closely and consider the many ways, both playful and serious, that verbal

and visual languages meet, overlap, and spark conversation.

The twelve exhibiting members of the Five15Arts collective are Bob Allen, Sheri Ashton, Daniel Friedman, Marlys Kubicek, Victoria Lindley, Harold Lohner, Charissa Lucille, Amy Menousek, Elissa Nowacki, Daniel Prendergast, Wendy Raisanen, and Lynda Schlosberg.
