Charissa Lucille: Vibrant Fibers
December 5–28, 2025
Opening Reception: Friday, December 5, 6–9pm
Third Friday Reception: December 19, 6–9pm
Charissa Lucille’s new solo exhibition, Vibrant Fibers, features mixed media artworks combining colorful cotton quilts and paper zines.
Zines are self-published booklets containing any content the author chooses and are created and distributed in community-driven networks outside of mainstream publishing. Lucille has published zines for over a decade and runs a zine hub in Phoenix called Wasted Ink Zine Distro. Zines and quilts take center stage in Lucille’s new exhibit, Vibrant Fibers.
“I pulled inspiration from my high school art notebooks, quilts from my childhood, and my decade of running Wasted Ink Zine Distro,” Lucille said. “This exhibition is a love letter to our zine community and I hope it feels like walking into a colorful fabric personal zine (perzine).”
Using paper, cotton, thread, ink, watercolor paint, and a variety of tools and presses, Lucille invites you into their colorful world of fiber to celebrate their dedication to paper and cotton. Some artworks explore the fold of an eight-page mini zine, some use staples as the threaded stitches, and some feature layers of handwritten script.
Lucille is punctuating the exhibit with interactive art activities including the following:
Friday, December 19, 6-9pm
Impromptu haikus typed by Lucille on their Underwood 319 script typewriter.
Saturday, December 27, 11am-2pm
Community Quilt-Along where visitors add stitches to quilt blocks which will be joined together into a community quilt.
