Deborah Hodder

Artist's Statement

The majority of Deborah Hodder’s work is figurative and incorporates organic clay vessels as metaphor. Groups of figures encircled illustrate the juxtaposition of our instincts for freedom and security—the secure encapsulating the less secure and keeping them safe, or those encapsulated seeking freedom from the vessel that contains them. Organic motifs become the uniting elements illustrating the interconnectedness and interdependence of living beings.
